An LED TV is a consumer device: one sealed panel, a built-in tuner and a fixed size, usually lit by an LED backlight behind an LCD layer. A professional LED screen is a modular system of cabinets and diodes that you size to the wall and drive with external processors.
The two share the LED name but live in different worlds. A TV is for a living room; an LED screen is for a venue, a facade or a stage where size, brightness and seamless tiling matter.
| Factor | LED TV | Professional LED screen |
|---|---|---|
| Size | Fixed, up to about 100 inch | Any size, tiled from cabinets |
| Brightness | Low, for indoor dim rooms | 600-1000 nits indoor, 4500+ outdoor |
| Seams | Single panel, none | Seamless across cabinets |
| Use | Home viewing | Retail, events, outdoor media |
Not for large or bright venues. A TV is too dim and too small, and cannot tile.
The TV is LED-backlit LCD. The screen is self-emissive LED. Different builds despite the name.
A TV plugs in. An LED screen needs structure, power distribution and a processor, but rewards you with scale and brightness.
For a small indoor info screen in low light, a commercial TV can be enough. Anything bigger or brighter needs a screen.
