An LED display is not one product but a family of them, differentiated by where they are installed, how they are packaged and what they are asked to show. Choosing the right type starts with the environment — indoor or outdoor, fixed or touring — and then narrows to pitch and packaging. This overview maps the landscape and where VP LED sits in it.

The Main Types

TypeTypical specWhere it is used
Indoor fine pitchCOB / MIP / GOB / SMD, 600–1,000 nitsControl rooms, retail, broadcast, close-up signage
Outdoor high-brightnessCOB, 4,500–5,000 nits (up to 14,000 custom)Building faces, roadside, stadium fascias
Rental / touringQuick-lock die-cast, rear serviceStages, events, exhibitions
Creative / special-shapeFloor, transparent, flexible, sphericalArchitectural, immersive, retail experiences

Common Uses

  • Retail and lobby — fine-pitch indoor walls for close viewing.

  • Control rooms and broadcast — seamless video walls with no bezels, read from a few metres.

  • Stages and events — rental walls, often fine pitch outdoors at 4,500+ nits.

  • Outdoor advertising — high-brightness daylight-readable billboards.

  • Transit and public space — wayfinding and information at scale.

The Core Benefits (Whatever the Type)

  • Brightness on demand — from 600 nits indoors to 14,000 nits custom outdoors.

  • Seamless at any size — cabinets lock into one bezel-free image.

  • Long life — service life depends on the site: heat, humidity, dust and running hours all matter.

  • Content agility — real-time creative swaps and live feeds.

VP LED's Lines

We cover the range: MIP P0.9 and COB P1.25 for indoor fine pitch, a GOB series for rental ruggedness, and the outdoor COB P1.2 / P1.5 / P1.9 series at 4,500–5,000 nits. We run P1.2 / P1.5 / P1.9 in both fixed and rental, and offer outdoor rental at those fine pitches — a combination event teams ask for but rarely find. See the COB Outdoor P1.5 and the MIP P0.9 for two ends of the range.

Technical Note: Cabinet Math: From Wall to Cabinet

Equation panel for the article: Cabinet Math: From Wall to Cabinet - three governing equations with numbering

Equation (1) counts cabinets: wall width W and height H divided by cabinet dimensions cw, ch - build planning starts here, not at the picture. Equation (2) gives the pixels inside one 500mm cabinet at pitch p (mm): 640,000 at P1.25 but only 10,000 at P5, the reason fine pitch means dense receiving cards. Equation (3) sets the closest seamless viewing distance, 3438 times the pitch in metres.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which type do I need?

Start from environment (indoor/outdoor) and viewing distance, then pitch and packaging follow. Our pixel pitch guide walks the decision.

Can one product do everything?

No single panel suits a control room and a stadium. But standardising on one pitch across fixed and rental builds lets a brand reuse spares and training — which is exactly why we offer P1.2 / P1.5 / P1.9 in both.
