What CE-LVD Certification Means for an LED Display

CE-LVD is the European Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU), which sets the safety requirements for electrical equipment operating between 50–1000 V AC and 75–1500 V DC. Where CE-EMC is about electromagnetic behaviour, LVD is about not shocking, burning or failing the user — insulation, earthing, creepage distances and thermal limits.

An LED wall is a high-power, permanently wired system: cabinets, switched-mode power supplies, cabling and a control chain. LVD is what makes that system safe to install in a public building, a retail space or a street-facing structure.

What CE-LVD Covers on an LED Display

Electrical insulation — isolation between live parts and accessible surfaces.
Creepage and clearance — minimum distances across and along surfaces at the wall's operating voltage.
Earthing and protective circuits — safe fault pathways in the cabinet and PSU.
Thermal and fire safety — materials and limits that prevent overheating under load.

Our displays are designed to LVD requirements so they carry CE marking lawfully and install safely. LVD and CE-EMC together are the two halves of CE conformity for a wall; we hold both, alongside RoHS material compliance.

Technical Note: Insulation and Fault Clearance

Equation (1) defines insulation resistance: the high-voltage test level U_test divided by the leakage current I_leak it drives through the insulation. Equation (2) gives the fault current from the source voltage U₀ and the fault-loop impedance Z_s - protective devices must clear this current fast enough. Equation (3) is the power dissipated in the protective earth path, which is why conductor cross-section and terminations are checked for heating.
